Chris Pine: Morning Coffee Run #7 of the Year
[info]samslave wrote in [info]ontd_startrek
Chris Pine looks both ways before crossing the street with his morning coffee on Thursday (January 7) in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old actor was recently spotted at L.A.’s M Café by himself, ordering a teriyaki bowl with black cod and extra brown rice. The same day, Kirsten Dunst ordered the California club sandwich, which features tempeh “bacon,” and also ordered a side of kale and spicy peanut sauce – all washed down with a green lemonade infused with kale.

ST may have bagged one Oscar nom already
[info]yjh wrote in [info]ontd_startrek

E! : Shocker! Avatar, District 9, Star Trek Make Cut for F/X Oscar

"It's shaping up to be an alien invasion at the Oscars.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, James Cameron's Na'vi-centric 3-D extravaganza Avatar, Neill Blomkamp's prawn thriller District 9 and J.J. Abrams' action-packed Spock-eriffic reboot of Star Trek lead the list of seven films short-listed for the Visual Effects Oscar nomination.

Of course, all three are aspiring to even loftier heights. After yesterday's Producer Guild nominations, the trio all have a shot at a Best Picture nod in this year's expanded field.

Rounding out the VFX contenders: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and 2012. (Sorry, Twi-hards, New Moon didn't even make the quarterfinals.)

On Jan. 21, members of the Academy's Visual Effects Branch will whittle the seven movies down to three for the official Oscar ballot. Nominations for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Feb. 2."

There also appears to be some talk that if they all make the list for best picture, Star Trek and District 9 could damage Avatar's chances.

Thursday Graphics Post

THURSDAY GRAPHICS POST!

If you were savvy, you might have noticed that in the confusion of New Year's Eve, and my excitement about the Party Post, I, err, forgot to post this last Thursday. Sorry about that!

Without further ado, here is the weekly post where members can link to their icons, wallpapers, macros, and other misc. graphics.

As always, we recommend you link to your journal, rather than posting all your icons in a single comment. A preview of a few icons/one of your wallpapers (preferably resized, or a thumbnail) is the way to go.

Punch it! ♥

So I found this picture somewhere in this comm but now I cannot find it anymore.
Does anybody remember who did it?

Zoe and Sam on USA Today

Article is nothing we haven't heard before, but the pictures make me smile because they look slightly uncomfortable but completely gorgeous. Worthington doesn't seem to be into having his picture taken at all, much less in a studio where he doesn't know what to do with his face.

And by the way, time and effort was put into making her look cute and stylish. And Worthington is wearing a Volcom hoodie. Story of my life.

I know someone else here shares my not so secret dream that in another universe they're a seriously cute couple. )

Lulzy, Canon-Smashing Gold Key Comics!
[info]hellotransience wrote in [info]ontd_startrek
From the source:
"Between 1967 and 1979, Gold Key published 61 STAR TREK comics. Today's fans often overlook these stories, forgetting that they are part of the STAR TREK universe. While far from canon for a number of reasons, these adventures are every bit as exciting and fascinating as their television counterpart."

SWEET GODDAMN, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND EVERYONE IN BETWEEN! This site (and these comics)are fantastically hilarious. I submit for your entertainment, Spock's "Psycho File"... (with bonus sneaky-slash!)

SPOCK, SPOCK YOUR HEAD'S AN EARTH ROCK. )

And here concludes my way too long, way too manic presentation of Spock's Psycho-File from the Gold Key Star Trek comic series! If anyone wants, I can post our other favorite 'Fleetsters, or show you some of my favorite issues from this series. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy the lulz :)
Also, if anyone has Tumblr-- I post this (and other Star Trek stuff) all. Frickin. Day. Seriously, I'm locked to a computer at work, this is what I do.

(The Customer Is) Not Always Right II

I was reading <a href="http://www.notalwaysright.com.(The Customer Is) Not Always Right</a> thanks to ONTD, and I found this GQMF post:

Klingon To The Hope Of A Ticket

Movie Theater | London, UK

Customer: “Two tickets for Star Trek, please.”

Me: “That showing has sold out, sir.”

Customer: “What! That’s impossible!”

Me: “The IMAX is very popular sir. I am afraid we don’t have any more seats until tomorrow.”

Customer: “I need to see this movie! You’re not a Star Trek fan. You wouldn’t understand! Please sell me a ticket!”

Me: “I would love to sir, but the needs of the one or the few do not outweigh the needs of the many.”

Customer: *recognizing my quote from Star Trek* “I see. I suppose I couldn’t say that sometimes the needs of the one or the few do outweigh the needs of the many?”

Me: “No sir, that would be quite illogical.”

Customer: “Hmm, you’re good.”

Me: “I must have the lobes for business.”

Customer: “Two tickets for tomorrow then, please.”

Me: “Very good, sir.”

Customer: “Live long and prosper!”

Zach strips down on Heroes. Again. Am I allowed to post about this?
[info]yjh wrote in [info]ontd_startrek
I don't know if this is relevant, so feel free to reject. A Heroes recap from EW which pretty much summarizes everything that's going wrong.
"Zachary Quinto is great, but Sylar’s character arc is nonsensical and I get the vibe that Quinto is anxious to move on to bigger, better, Spockier things."
"Did you like having Sylar back to his old self? He had one line that seemed to sum up this season: 'Everybody’s got big plans for me. I think that’s all they have.'"

Well, now that Sylar is an epic slut (lol, jk, nothing that exciting is happening), he's taking his clothes of more. This episode came complete with horrendous lens flare failures at the opener (If there were a gif of JJ facepalming I would use it), the makings for a perfectly good porno with the cheerleader, and a woman running her fingers through Sylar's chest hair.

HEROES. YOU NEVER FAIL TO MAKE ME FEEL WEIRD AND UNCOMFORTABLE.

This is pretty much JUST chest hair. )

News: Priest Purgatory + Set-Video - They Know How To Sell Up Story
    [info]julianmoore wrote in [info]ontd_startrek

Fans of Min-woo Hyung's Korean comic book series "Priest" are bound to see differences when Scott Stewart's feature film adaptation, Priest , hits the screen. It's inevitable. Publisher Tokyopop hopes to ease readers into the big screen interpretation through an all-new graphic novel called "Priest: Purgatory." A veil of evil threatens to engulf humanity, and one man stands in the way of the apocalypse: our hero, a fallen priest who sold his soul for the power to battle evil and fight for humanity's redemption. Tokyopop says "Purgatory" will bridge the storyline in the comic to the film which stars Paul Bettany, Karl Urban and Maggie Q.

The first issue in the four-part comic series streets on March 31; the film opens on August 20.
